Problem
High Desert is a new kind of spirit: a vodka distilled in Texas from prickly pear cactus harvested in the mountains of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. It has the clean profile of a vodka with a hint of tequila, and it’s aimed at career-driven women in their early 30s who already drink vodka. Goods & Services built the brand from scratch. The bottle had to do what no stock bottle could: signal a new category, feel handmade and authentic, and earn its place on the top shelf.
Solution
The answer was a custom bottle, produced by a glassmaker in Mexico, that sits between the two worlds the spirit comes from: the tall, clean posture of a vodka and the crafted character of a tequila. Alongside the identity, label and campaign created by the Goods & Services team, the bottle was crafted from first sketch to final render as its own design challenge.
More than 20 radically different directions were explored before the silhouette settled. The brief called for a bottle that felt feminine without falling back on the usual clichés of design “for women.” The answer was height: a tall, slender form with a confident stance that reads as elegant on a back bar and stands out on a crowded shelf.
Authenticity came from imperfection. The bottle was modeled in Cinema 4D and deliberately distorted so the glass reads as hand-blown, with slightly irregular walls and light that bends the way it does through real handmade glass. Details developed with the creative director reinforce that feel: “The Spirit of the Desert” embossed on the shoulder, “Austin, TX” on the base, and a stamped metal cap on the cork. Rendered in Redshift, the bottle carried the brand through client approvals, distributor sell-in and the launch campaign. After a label redesign, the bottle has kept its original form since the first production run.
